The Gambler Project

A winning Watch

It is a cold freezing evening in December. As usually it’s crowded in the old Amsterdam pub the “oude Molen”. Like always the old poker group of Jan de Graaf is playing poker in the corner. Ready to begin their game as usual. Everybody sits in plays at the poker table to gamble with their monthly incomes again. But poor old Jan hasn’t had a lot left to play with. He lost everything a couple of weeks ago, and his work had fired him months ago. But he was about to get it all back. The only thing he had left to play with was his old watch. He got from his father before the war.

One whisky after the other. Alcohol didn’t give him any aid in his poker game. His plays are worse every turn. He lost the last bits of change he had left. The last round began. Everyone went all in. But then it happened the perfect hand. He could go all in. Could he? He could lose more and more or step out.

The Gambling Watch

I have used 3ds Max, Unreal, Photoshop and Substance painter for this project. It is one of the first projects where I used Substance painter and Unreal to make a nice render. I used the snapshot function in Unreal a lot. Both programs were easy to use after a while. I like the outcome of the two renders. I am happy to make more use out of it in the future.

Unreal

After all the unwrapping and texturing in Unreal I finally finished my models and started to work on the scene. I tried many new things. Like particle systems and fog. I tought it gave a pretty impression of an extreme commercial you see on television. Like these parfum commercials.

Fire?!

After my first couple of renders I realised something. It has to be a little more exciting. Give it a little more of an 'wow' effect. So i decided to add a couple of flames in. Not just a couple, a lot more.
